To celebrate our 25 years in business, over the next few weeks we will be posting tips and advice on recruitment to assist you in your job search and prepare you for a new career. Our second post is on the topic of “25 of the worst words used on CV’s!”
We’ve seen some corkers believe us! Bearing in mind your potential new boss may spend just a minute or two looking at your CV (he may have hundreds to look at!) then you need to make sure the language is right so that you stand out from the rest.
Here’s our list of 25 words which are best left avoided:-
1. Best of breed
3. Think outside the box
4. Go-to person
5. Hit the ground running
6. Salary negotiable
7. People person
8. Value added
11. Strategic thinker
15. References available by request
18. Highly qualified
20. Problem-solving skills
21. Thought leadership
22. Hard working
23. Track record
Instead, use words like achieved, improved, mentored, managed, created, resolved and negotiated.
Keep your CV short, precise and professional. It’s only a brief overview of your experience and achievements, it can be discussed further in the interview. Happy CV writing!
