A privately owned specialist engineering business who have been trading for over 125 years.  The company has earned its global reputation as a leading supplier of engineering and precision engineering solutions.

The Challenge

One of their employees resigned as an overseas service technician due to his wife having their first baby and he wanted to spend more time with his new family. This created a massive void in fulfilling their worldwide service commitments and scheduled agreement dates and they required an immediate replacement. Due to their unique product candidates working in a similar role can be rarely found.

Historical Recruitment Approaches

Despite the client traditionally using employee referral and a selection of other agencies they always came back to The Works due to our previous success in sourcing suitable employees.

The Approach

A full face to face job brief was obtained to incorporate every detail and taking in to account the challenge of extensive overseas travel and being away from home for long periods coupled with a massive engineering skills shortage this would have a huge impact on the availability of suitably qualified and available candidates.

The Works has one of the most extensive database of candidates accrued over 24 years of specialist trading. This was our initial marketing tool combined with social media and within 48 hours 2 candidates were identified with interviews arranged within 5 working days. Both candidates were deemed suitable and a second interview followed shortly with a job offer made to one of the candidates with the role filled within 2 weeks.

Costs and MI

Fees were negotiated from the outset with the client offering to pay a higher percentage fee for the role to be filled in 2 weeks from point of order as they were under threat of losing business to overseas competitors.


Our client could continue to fulfil their service agreements with minimal disruption with none of their customers lost.
