Bradford manufacturers face grilling from local students

On Thursday 11th October, top Bradford manufacturers will sit on a panel and take questions from a live student audience as part of the event schedule for Bradford Manufacturing Week. The event is taking place at Bradford College and panellists will include Seabrook’s, Christeyns, EPTA (UK) and Keighley Laboratories.

The event is being jointly hosted by The Works Recruitment and Approach PR as part of the awareness week which aims to inspire young people to consider a career in manufacturing. The event will also include a live Q&A session on Twitter between 10am and 11am where questions can be fired at the panel and answered online by using the hashtag #BradfordmfgLIVE.

Craig Burton, Managing Director from The Works Recruitment has commented “As a recruiter we are planning our talent pipeline for five to ten years. By engaging young people now and introducing them to the real opportunities in manufacturing, however a tiny part we can play, is the right thing to do and we’d encourage every employer to do the same.”

Craig continues “We need to be showing the young people of Bradford how exciting and rewarding a career in manufacturing can be. There are so many opportunities out there for young people and by sponsoring this event we can hopefully encourage young people to consider a career in this sector.”

One of the panellists Nick Garthwaite, president of Bradford Chamber and Managing Director at Christeyns, added “Bradford Manufacturing Week is just the start of improving communication between schools and manufacturers and by showing just what an innovative industry this is, we believe we can turn more young people on to manufacturing as a desired career choice.”

Nick continues “It’s important to me that Bradford Manufacturing Week creates a legacy which will fuel the pipeline of talent in the local and ultimately, the national manufacturing sector. I will certainly encourage my own grandchildren to consider apprenticeships (in manufacturing) as a great way of learning and developing a fulfilling career.”
