How to spring clean your career for Easter

Easter is a wonderful time of year isn’t it? Warmer weather (we hope), spring flowers coming into bloom, and plenty of chocolate to munch our way through!

It’s the time of year where we start thinking about spring cleaning, clear outs, new beginnings and new challenges (whether that’s at home, work or both)

So if you are stuck in a rut, or fancy an exciting new opportunity, what are you going to do about it? Here are some ideas that could get the “egg” rolling…..(see what we did there!)

Define your goals

Firstly, start with a list of what you want to achieve over the next 12 months. Are there any challenges you could get involved in, any mentoring you can provide your colleagues with, or any training you’d like to attend for your own personal development? This is your opportunity to document your career plans for the next 12 months – where do you see yourself and what targets can you set yourself? If you are unhappy at work or feel that you need a new challenge, get a notepad and pen out and write down a plan of action – what do you like doing, what are you good at and where do you want to go?

Do something good

Doing something to make you feel good will have a huge effect on your well-being and give you a great sense of achievement. You could do something for charity or offer to volunteer for a local business or community project/school. It’s a nice thing to do and it looks really good on your CV. It will give you a great boost knowing that you are helping other people and can give you so many skills such as networking, communication, organising and team work.

De-clutter your life

Everybody always feels better after a de-clutter or tidy up don’t they? You could have a clear out at home and give items to charity, but you can also have a tidy up at work too. Clear out old emails, tidy up folders and files, finish off that project you’ve been avoiding, the list of activities you could do is endless. It’s a good way of de-cluttering your mind too! A clear and calm mind is a step towards a happier mind.

Update your CV

It’s always handy to have an up to date CV even if you are happy in your role and not looking for a new opportunity at this moment in time. You never know what might be just around the corner or what lies ahead. Make sure your CV is updated with your most recent achievements or experience and that none of the information is out of date.

Read, Read, Read

If you are interested in a particular sector or work area, research it. Follow people on social media who are influencers and keep up to speed with the news and developments in your sector. It’s so important to know what’s going on in the world and it might benefit you massively in your role!

So now you know how to spruce up, clear out and refresh your career……and we guarantee doing so will make you feel so much better! And if the outcome of all of this is a new career on the cards, please get in touch. We can give you advice and support on your next career move.

Wishing you a wonderful Easter from us all at The Works Recruitment!
