Leeds manufacturers are next to face student grilling!

After the success of last week’s Bradford Manufacturing Live event, we are delighted to be sponsoring this week’s Leeds Manufacturing Festival and running the event again in Leeds.

A panel of key Leeds manufacturers will join together on Tuesday 16th October to face live questions from an audience of young people. The panel include producers of high quality fibreglass mouldings MPM, medical lighting company Brandon Medical, catering equipment manufacturer Hopkins, expert electronics manufacturer Daletech Electronics, Sound Leisure who hand build classic jukeboxes and printing manufacturer Agfa Graphics.

The event will be streamed live from 10am til 11am and you will get the chance to ask the panel a live question using the hashtag #LeedsMfgLive on Twitter. Greg Wright from the Yorkshire Post will chair the event and the aim of tomorrow is to engage young people and to help them develop a greater understanding of the employment opportunities in manufacturing which are on their doorstep. Together we are hoping to grow the interest and skills of students and to encourage them to consider an exciting career in manufacturing.

Some of the topics discussed at the Bradford Manufacturing live event last week were around women in manufacturing, rates of pay, the future of manufacturing and Apprentices v Degrees so we are expecting many questions around these areas. There are 5,310 manufacturing businesses in West Yorkshire employing 99,000 people. In Leeds City Region, advanced manufacturing is a key growth sector and has the largest employment in this sector in the UK.

Craig Burton, our Managing Director, said “As a recruiter we are planning our talent pipeline for five to ten years. By engaging young people now and introducing them to the real opportunities in manufacturing, however a tiny part we can play, is the right thing to do and we’d encourage every employer to do the same.”

Craig continues “We are delighted to have been involved in both the Leeds and Bradford manufacturing events and have been overwhelmed by the local support we have received for both events. Hearing the passion and ambition from the students at the Bradford event last week was very inspiring and is really exciting for us as recruiters.”

To get involved on the day, tweet your questions or comments for the panellists using #LeedsMfgLive on Twitter between 10am and 11am TOMORROW. The event will be streamed live on leedsmanufacturingfestival.co.uk/youtube.
